Postpone နဲ႔ Move up ကိုမွန္ေအာင္သံုးမယ္။
အခ်ိန္အတိအက် schedule နဲ႔ စီစဥ္ထားတဲ့ အခမ္းအနား၊ အစည္းအေဝး၊ စာေမးပြဲ၊ ဆရာဝန္နဲ႔ခ်ိန္းထားတာမ်ိဳးတို႔ကို အေၾကာင္းေၾကာင္းေၾကာင့္ စီစဥ္ထားတဲ့ ေန႔မွာ၊ အခ်ိန္မွာ မလုပ္ႏိုင္လို႔ ေနာက္ကို ေရႊ႕ဆိုင္းရမယ္ဆိုရင္ to postpone ဆိုတဲ့ Verb ကိုသံုးရပါတယ္။
postpone (verb)= ေရႊ႕ဆိုင္းသည္
postponement (noun)= ေရႊ႕ဆိုင္းျခင္း
ဥပမာ ဝါက်ေလးေတြနဲ႔ သံုးတတ္ေအာင္မွတ္မယ္။
1. The meeting is postponed to Friday as the boss is not free today.
သူေဌး ဒီေန႔မအားလို႔ အစည္းအေဝးကို ေသာၾကာေန႔ကိုေရႊ႕လိုက္တယ္။
postpone something to + time သို႔မဟုတ္
postpone something until + time ဆိုၿပီး အသံုးျပဳရပံုကို အလြတ္ရေအာင္ မွတ္ရမွာပါ။ ဥပမာ ထပ္ၾကည့္ပါ။
2. The concert was postponed to the following Saturday because of the bad weather.
ရာသီဥတုမေကာင္းလို႔ ဂီတေဖ်ာ္ေျဖပြဲကို ေနာက္တစ္ပတ္ စေနေန႔ကို ေရႊ႕လိုက္တယ္။
သြားဆရာဝန္နဲ႔ ဒီေန႔ျပဖို႔ ခ်ိန္းထားတာ မအားလို႔ မသြားႏိုင္ဘူး။ ဖုန္းဆက္ၿပီး ေနာက္ေရႊ႕ဖို႔ေျပာၾကည့္မယ္။
3. Would you mind if I postpone my appointment today to tomorrow evening?
ဒီေန႔ခ်ိန္းထားတာကို မနက္ျဖန္ညေနကို ေရႊ႕လို႔ရမလားဟင္။
4. May I postpone my appointment to tomorrow?
ခ်ိန္းထားတာကို မနက္ျဖန္ေရႊ႕လို႔ရမလား။
အဲဒီလို အသစ္ျပန္ခ်ိန္းေတာ့ အရင္သေဘာတူ သတ္မွတ္ၿပီးသား schedule ကို အခ်ိန္ျပန္ျပင္ရမွာဆိုေတာ့ to reschedule ဆိုတဲ့ Verb ကိုသံုးရပါတယ္။
5. May I reschedule our meeting for a later time?
(အရင္သတ္မွတ္ထားတာထက္ ေနာက္က်တဲ့ ) ေနာက္တစ္ခ်ိန္ေတြ႕ၾကဖို႔ ျပန္ခ်ိန္းခ်င္တယ္။
6. May I reschedule our meeting for an earlier time?
time?
(အရင္သတ္မွတ္ထားတာထက္ ေစာတဲ့ ) ေနာက္တစ္ခ်ိန္ေတြ႕ၾကဖို႔ ျပန္ခ်ိန္းခ်င္တယ္။
ဆိုေတာ့ကာ to reschedule for a later time/ to reschedule for an earlier time ဆိုတဲ့ အသံုးကိုမွတ္ပါ။
ခ်ိန္းထားတာကို အခ်ိန္ေနာက္ေရႊ႕ရင္ postpone ဆိုေတာ့ အခ်ိန္ကို ေရွ႕ေရႊ႕ခ်င္ရင္၊ ေစာခ်င္ရင္ prepone ဆိုၿပီး အလုပ္ထဲမွာ India ကသူငယ္ခ်င္းတစ္ေယာက္က Memo မွာ The department meeting has been preponed to 9:00 a.m. ဆိုၿပီးခ်ထည့္လိုက္တာ အဂၤလိပ္စာဌာနထဲမွာ ေတာ္ေတာ္ေလးပြက္ေလာ႐ိုက္သြားတာကို သတိရမိပါေသးတယ္။ အဂၤလိပ္စာမွာ prepone ဆိုတာမရွိဘူးတဲ့၊ သူတို႔ Native speakers ေတြက အဲဒီလို မသံုးပါဘူးတဲ့။ Indian English variety မွာေတာ့ ထြင္သံုးၾကပံုရတယ္။ သို႔ေသာ္လည္း အခုေတာ့ အဂၤလိပ္ အဘိဓာန္ႀကီးေတြမွာ prepone ဆိုတဲ့ စကားလံုးကို Indian English origin အေနျဖင့္ ထည့္သြင္းျပလာၾကပါၿပီ။
